SCHENECTADY, NY—GE Verona is investing $41 million to expand its historic generator factory here that serves as the company’s Center of Excellence for assembly and testing.
The new funding will enhance the production of GE Vernova’s H65 and H84 generators, which accompany the company’s most efficient HA gas turbines.
“We are committed to meeting the needs of our customers and the world as demand for electricity continues to rise at historic rates,” says Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova. “This investment continues our work to build gas power capacity and help meet global energy needs.”
“[We have] a 130-year legacy in New York state, which is home to our gas power and onshore wind businesses, and our advanced research center,” explains Strazik. “This latest investment is in addition to more than $130 million [we have] announced in Schenectady since 2023, including $50 million in 2023 to build a new manufacturing line that created more than 200 new jobs and $80 million for gas power and onshore wind work.”
The Schenectady Works was once a massive complex near Albany, NY, that employed up to 40,000 people. It was General Electric’s largest facility and home to foundries, machine shops, assembly lines and laboratories that mass-produced a variety of generators, motors, turbines, wiring and electrical equipment.
