South Korea Reacts to U.S. Immigration Raid at Hyundai Plant

SEOUL—The Associated Press has released an article detailing the aftermath following the ICE raid that took place last week at Hyundai's plant in Ellabell, Georgia. According to the article, South Korea’s foreign minister is traveling to the U.S. to arrange the return of more than 300 South Korean workers who were detained on September 4.
The U.S. has agreed to release the workers, who will be flown home once paperwork is finalized. President Trump defended the raid, saying the workers were in the country illegally and that the U.S. should train its own citizens for advanced manufacturing roles.
The incident has sparked outrage in Seoul, with lawmakers calling it “unacceptable” and warning it could damage trust in the U.S.–South Korea alliance. Critics noted the raid came just weeks after Seoul pledged major U.S. investments. Analysts warn that the dispute underscores visa shortages for skilled South Korean workers and could delay Hyundai’s EV production in America.
