Trump Administration Weighs Billions in Additional Clean Energy Cuts

WASHINGTON D.C.—The Trump administration is reportedly considering canceling additional billions in clean energy funding, targeting projects tied to auto manufacturing and carbon capture, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.
Among the programs at risk are two billion-dollar direct air capture hubs launched under former President Biden, one involving Occidental Petroleum, and several electric vehicle transition projects — including $500 million for GM’s Lansing Grand River Plant in Michigan, $335 million for Stellantis’s Belvidere, Illinois facility, and $250 million for its Kokomo, Indiana transmission plant.
The move follows last week’s $7.56 billion rollback of clean energy financing that the Department of Energy said lacked adequate taxpayer returns. White House budget director Russell Vought also indicated plans to eliminate nearly $8 billion in climate funding across 16 Democratic-led states, including California and New York.
Companies involved, including Occidental, GM, and Stellantis, have not commented.
