DETROIT—General Motors said Monday that it will cut 15 percent of its salaried workforce, estimated to be around 14,700 people in North America, and that it will idle factories in Michigan, Ohio, Maryland and Canada.
DETROIT—General Motors will expand production and sales of the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle. At the same time, GM is expanding battery production for the vehicle from South Korea to a new factory in Michigan.
TONAWANDA, NY—General Motors' Tonawanda Engine plant has been chosen to produce next-generation engines for the Chevrolet Silverado, the company's flagship product. GM unveiled updates Monday to its 2019 Silverado 1500, which will be sold in the fall. The truck features updated versions of the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter gasoline V8 engines.
ORION TOWNSHIP, MI—A General Motors Co. manufacturing plant in Metro Detroit that was idled during the Detroit automaker’s federally induced bankruptcy is now one of the keys to GM’s future, reports The Detroit News. Orion Assembly is one of two plants where GM is investing $100 million in total to retool for Cruise AV production. The other is the Brownstown battery assembly plant, where roof modules for the Cruise AV are built.

Deliveries of the GM-produced Chevy Bolt have increased significantly, while Tesla continues to deal with persistent production delays.
DETROIT--Workers at a General Motors factory in Canada approved a new labor contract Monday, ending a 4-week strike that stalled production of the Chevrolet Equinox. GM's CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, is the main source of Equinox crossovers. The facility had been idle since Sept. 17. Unifor Local 88 President Dan Borthwick says nearly 86 percent of members voted in favor of the 4-year deal.
