RIDGEVILLE, SC—Volvo has broken ground on its first U.S. automotive assembly plant here. The $500 million facility will build the company’s new S-60 sedan, a car under development in Sweden.
CAMDEN, SC—Haier America is investing $72 million in South Carolina to expand its refrigerator manufacturing operation here. The project will add 410 new jobs.
RIDGEVILLE, SC—Volvo will build its first U.S. car factory in Berkeley County, SC. Volvo’s $500 million investment in the assembly plant could create as many as 2,000 jobs over the next decade and up to 4,000 jobs by 2030.
LADSON, SC—Mercedes-Benz Vans will build a new $500 million assembly plant here to produce its next-generation Sprinter vans. The facility is expected to create 1,300 jobs.
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a production certificate for Boeing’s assembly plant here to deliver 787-9 aircraft to customers. The FAA initially issued a production certificate in July 2012 for the 787-8.
COLUMBIA, SC—South Carolina is a finalist for Volvo’s first North American assembly plant. North Carolina and Kentucky also are pursuing the Swedish carmaker’s plant.
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—Even as Boeing opened a large new propulsion plant here last week, the aeronautics giant announced the facility has already been assigned additional work.
