ROCHESTER, NH—No one was hurt after dust from composites sparked a fire within the duct system of Spaulding Composites’ assembly plant here. The company makes components for heavy equipment, air tools, bearing retainers and other products.
MEXICO CITY—A decade ago, wages in Mexico were six times higher than in China. In 2011, they are only 40 percent higher. That, along with other factors, is spurring a growing number of manufacturers to move production from China to Mexico.
LANSING, MI—General Motors Co. could receive $4 million in tax breaks from the city of Lansing for building a $38.6 million logistical center there to support its Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
INDIANAPOLIS—Arcamed Inc. has leased a 15,000-square-foot building here to assemble titanium and stainless steel case-tray systems for surgical instruments. The company plans to hire 71 people and is investing $1.4 million in equipment to begin production.
WEIRTON, WV—Pietro Fiorentini USA, a manufacturer of oil and gas control systems, plans to open a $9 million assembly plant here. The plant could employ 150 when fully operational.
WASHINGTON—CEOs’ expectations for the economy over the next six months have improved due to expected higher sales and capital spending, but expectations for hiring remain flat, according to the last economic outlook survey from the Business Roundtable.
