LIVONIA, MI—Ford plans to invest $350 million in its assembly plant here, where a new transmission for fuel-efficient vehicles will be built. The investment is expected to create or keep 800 jobs.

Kildeer, IL—For the first time in decades, more manufacturing jobs are returning to the United States than are going offshore, according to the Reshoring Initiative. New U.S. manufacturing jobs attributed to reshoring and foreign direct investment totaled 77,000 in 2016. That’s a 10 percent increase over 2015 and it exceeded the rate of offshoring by about 27,000 jobs.

The factory was confiscated last week, along with GM’s bank accounts and other assets, as anti-government protesters clashed with security forces and pro-government groups—a surprise decision that drew the U.S. into the country’s increasing political turmoil.
