U.S. manufacturing activity grew in January and has returned to expansion for the first time in a year, driven by a sharp rebound in new orders. Factory operators, however, are still navigating higher input costs, labor pressure and supply chain strain.
RED LAKE FALLS, MN—Mower manufacturer Altoz Inc. recently announced plans to expand its facility here by 62,500 square feet to accommodate the company’s growth. The expansion is expected to be completed by this fall, and is the first phase of a multi-phase project.

LANCASTER, CA--Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD announced this week another expansion to its electric bus and battery module factory here. The expansion will add 100,000 square feet to the facility when it comes online at the end of June. It will be used to store parts and components for BYD’s products, freeing up manufacturing space and allowing for better use of the space in its primary manufacturing building.
TEMPE, AZ——Manufacturing in the United States expanded in February at the fastest pace since August 2014, as factory managers reported stronger orders and production. The Institute for Supply Management’s index climbed to 57.7, the sixth straight advance, from 56 a month earlier, the group’s report showed last Wednesday.
