FORT WAYNE, IN—General Motors’ assembly plant here has produced its 11 millionth vehicle.
The vehicle—a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country pickup truck—was purchased by GM engineering group manager Ken Zawisa.
The factory, which opened in 1986, primarily builds the light-duty versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
“It was exciting to find out my truck was the 11 millionth vehicle,” says Zawisa. “As a GM employee, I’m proud that we’ve built this many awesome trucks. The employees at Fort Wayne Assembly are building something every day that is important to a lot of customers.”
Indiana Governor Mike Braun attended the celebration of the 11 millionth vehicle produced. The factory employs more than 4,100 people.
The Fort Wayne milestone follows the announcement in March that GM’s assembly plant in Flint, MI, which builds the heavy-duty versions of the Silverado and Sierra, produced its 16 millionth vehicle.Looking for quick answers on assembly and manufacturing topics?
