Defense Manufacturing Hub Expands to Accelerate Transition From Prototypes to Production

BLOOMFIELD, Ind. — The American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation (ACMI) is expanding its National Security Industrial Hub to more than 1,500 acres as it seeks to help defense manufacturers move more quickly from rapid prototyping to full-scale production.

The Indiana campus has added SPINNER North America and iRocket as tenants while expanding Prometheus Energetics' footprint for solid rocket motor production. The project has grown from its original 1,100-acre plan, increasing its size by more than one-third.

Unlike a traditional industrial park, ACMI said the hub is designed around shared manufacturing infrastructure intended to reduce the capital, equipment and technical barriers that often prevent emerging defense manufacturers from scaling production.

SPINNER North America will establish an advanced manufacturing facility providing machining technology, application engineering, process development, automation expertise, training and production support to companies operating within the campus. According to ACMI, the facility is intended to support both rapid prototyping and high-volume manufacturing.

"The collaborative ecosystem being established at NSIH is exactly what we look for to rapidly prototype new technologies and successfully transition them into mass production."

"The United States has no shortage of innovation; what it lacks is production capacity at scale, and that's what we are delivering on with this expansion," said David Dowell, chief executive officer of ACMI Properties. "These new tenants and expansion of the campus reflect the compounding demand for modern manufacturing infrastructure."

Located adjacent to Crane Army Ammunition Activity and Naval Surface Warfare Center–Crane Division in southern Indiana, the campus is designed to provide shared manufacturing capabilities that help companies shorten the path from advanced research and development to scaled production while reducing startup costs and capital investment.
