Boston Scientific to Combine Light Manufacturing, Global Distribution in Indiana Expansion
INDIANAPOLIS — Boston Scientific plans to invest approximately $138 million in a new Indiana facility that will combine light manufacturing with global medical device distribution, expanding the company's logistics capabilities while supporting production-related operations.
The medical device manufacturer will construct a 500,000-square-foot facility at the Plainfield Innovation Park, where it expects to create up to 300 jobs. According to the state of Indiana, the site will incorporate state-of-the-art technology, manufacturing and processes required for regulatory compliance while supporting U.S.-based distribution and global shipments.
The facility will serve as a global distribution hub for medical devices used to treat more than 48 million patients annually. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said the project supports the state's broader effort to expand its life sciences sector through investments in research, manufacturing, production and logistics.
“Boston Scientific’s investment may be transformational not only for Plainfield, but also for the future of the BioHeartland,” said Robin Brandgard, president of the Plainfield Town Council. “This project validates the vision behind our south of I-70 innovation corridor, where advanced logistics, manufacturing and life sciences can thrive together with strategic infrastructure, connectivity and quality-of-place investments."
