In manufacturing and design, the trend of the last several years has been towards Big Data. And Big Data, which includes generation, collection, storage, analysis and query of significantly larger amounts of data, presents new challenges for manufacturers. In the ideal scenario, a "perfectly" manufactured assembly, or ideal part, and its associated data, is used as a standard to identify and gage patterns in the subsequent data, thereby greatly improving both efficiency and quality.
