STERLING HEIGHTS, MI—On Monday, Stellantis began indefinite layoffs of workers at its Sterling Stamping Plant here. Spokeswoman Ann Marie Fortunate did not disclose how many workers will be affected.

"In order to operate the plant in a more sustainable manner, Stellantis confirms that there will be indefinite layoffs at the Sterling Stamping Plant, effective June 20," the company announced in a statement.

As of this past January, more than 2,100 workers were employed at the plant, which produces stampings and assemblies, including hoods, roofs and liftgates, for numerous Stellantis plants.

Stellantis owns the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands.
