According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. manufacturers had 858,000 unfilled jobs in November 2021. Why is that, and what can manufacturers do about it?

To gain perspective on the issue, we spoke with Dr. Roberta Rehner Iversen, an associate professor of social policy and practice at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also the author of the new book, What Workers Say: Decades of Struggle and How to Make Real Opportunity Now, published in June 2022. For the book, Professor Iversen interviewed more than 1,200 workers to present stories about their jobs since 1980. She puts a human face on the experiences of a broad range of workers, indicating what their jobs were and are truly like. Tune in for key insights backed by 30 years of scholarly research collected in What Workers Say.
