APPLETON, WI—Pierce Manufacturing Inc.’s Volterra fire truck is the recipient of the 2022 “Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin” award. The annual competition is sponsored by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and Johnson Financial Group.

The Volterra can operate in either all-electric or internal combustion engine mode. It can leverage either source of power to provide uninterrupted performance in extended emergency operations. The first truck is currently being used by the Madison, WI, fire department.

Pierce, a division of Oshkosh Corp., is the largest fire apparatus manufacturer in the world. The company developed the Volterra to help fire departments reduce emissions and noise without having to compromise on operational performance, functionality and safety.

“Pierce has been a proud Wisconsin manufacturer for over 100 years, and our team is incredibly honored to have been included among an admired group of companies and remarkable products,” says Lisa Barwick, vice president of marketing for the fire and emergency segment at Oshkosh Corp. Throughout the [Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin] competition, a strong sense of pride and dedication to innovation was evident with every match-up. Winning is an incredible distinction, and we are thankful for the support of our team members, the community, our dealer network and our customers.”
