Volvo Acquires Proterra Inc. Battery Unit

BURLINGAME, CA—Volvo Group has acquired the battery business of Proterra Inc., which recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company also makes battery-powered transit buses and charging stations.
The assets to be acquired include a development center for battery modules and packs in Burlingame, CA, and an assembly plant in Greer, SC.
Phoenix Motor Inc., a manufacturer of medium-duty shuttle buses and school buses, is acquiring Proterra’s electric bus division.
