Pratt & Whitney to Expand Carolina Assembly Plant, Add 325 Jobs
ASHEVILLE, NC—Pratt & Whitney will spend $285 million to expand its assembly plant here, a move that is expected to create 325 new jobs.
The factory, which began operations in October 2020, specializes in producing high-tech turbine airfoils, essential components for jet engines. With more than 90,000 engines in service worldwide, Pratt & Whitney serves more than 17,000 customers in 200 countries. The new investment aims to increase capacity to meet rising demand.
The expansion will introduce new manufacturing processes and increase overall output, allowing the company to fulfill customer commitments while generating hundreds of new jobs.
The average salary for these new positions is projected at $62,413, significantly higher than Buncombe County’s average wage of $54,416. The new jobs are expected to contribute more than $20 million annually to the local payroll.
Pratt & Whitney’s collaboration with Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College has been instrumental in helping the company to meet staffing goals ahead of schedule.
Pratt & Whitney’s geared turbo fan (GTF) engine platform, which supports Airbus and Embraer aircraft, represents a significant step toward sustainability in aviation. The GTF engine platform reduces jet fuel consumption by 16 percent, cuts carbon emissions by up to 50 percent, and minimizes noise by up to 75 percent.Looking for quick answers on assembly and manufacturing topics?
