STOCKHOLM—Hexagon AB, a global leader in digital reality and autonomous solutions, today announced the launch of AEON, an advanced humanoid robot purpose-built for industrial environments.

Introduced during the Hexagon LIVE Global event, AEON represents a major milestone in industrial automation, blending state-of-the-art locomotion, sensor fusion, and AI-powered spatial intelligence to address pressing labor challenges and operational efficiency.

Developed by Hexagon’s newly formed Robotics division, AEON is engineered to meet real-world industrial demands across sectors such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, logistics, and warehousing. The robot is designed to support a broad array of tasks, including asset inspection, manipulation, digital reality capture, and operator assistance.

“Hexagon’s heritage in precision measurement and sensor technology positions us uniquely to drive the future of humanoid robotics,” said Ola Rollén, Chairman of the Board at Hexagon. “AEON is not a concept—it’s a production-ready, industrial-grade solution tailored to address labour shortages and enable next-generation autonomy. It marks a decisive step toward helping our customers grow sustainably amid demographic shifts.”

AEON’s capabilities include:

  • Agility: Seamlessly combines high-precision movement and dexterity, powered by Hexagon’s proprietary metrology technologies.
  • Awareness: Integrates data from multimodal sensors using AI-driven reasoning for environment understanding and task optimization.
  • Versatility: Supports a wide range of applications, from machine tending and inspection to digital twin creation and teleoperation.
  • Autonomy: Features an innovative battery-swapping mechanism that eliminates downtime and ensures continuous operation.

To validate AEON’s industrial viability, Hexagon is partnering with leading manufacturers Schaeffler and Pilatus to pilot deployments across production environments.

“Facing the increasing complexity of manufacturing in Switzerland, AEON presents a promising solution to help maintain our global competitiveness,” said Roman Emmenegger, VP Manufacturing at Pilatus. “Its mobility, sensor integration, and on-board intelligence are ideally suited to drive automation and digital transformation in our operations.”

Sebastian Jonas, SVP of Advanced Production Technology at Schaeffler, added: “Our collaboration with Hexagon reflects our commitment to integrating breakthrough technologies that enhance motion systems and industrial processes. We’re excited to pilot AEON and contribute our expertise in manufacturing and vertical integration.”

AEON is developed in strategic collaboration with technology leaders including NVIDIA, Microsoft, and maxon:

  • NVIDIA provides accelerated computing, simulation through Omniverse, and edge AI via Jetson platforms.
  • Microsoft Azure enables scalable cloud-based development and real-time AI model training.
  • maxon powers AEON’s precise locomotion with its next-generation actuators.

“AEON brings physical AI into the real world—bridging frontier innovation with industrial practicality,” said Arnaud Robert, President of Hexagon’s Robotics division. “We’re moving quickly to place AEON in production environments over the coming months, building toward a broader commercial rollout.”

Vent-A-Kiln Corp., based in Buffalo, NY, is a company with over 40 years of experience specializing in the design and manufacture of fume-hood ventilation systems. Their primary focus is on source capture ventilation, meaning they design equipment to capture and remove contaminated air, heat, fumes, smoke, and odors directly at their origin, before they can disperse into the workspace. This approach is designed to ensure a safer and healthier work environment. Their signature product is the Vent-A-Kiln system, which was the world's first commercially manufactured ventilation system specifically designed for use with electric kilns, introduced in 1983. These overhead systems are engineered to address the harmful fumes, odors, and significant heat generated during the firing of ceramic kilns.
