HUNTSVILLE, AL—L3Harris Technologies has unveiled its new 379,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Facility – South (AMF-South) in Huntsville, Alabama. The massive facility will support U.S. solid rocket motor (SRM) production to meet growing missile defense needs, including President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome initiative.
The $20 million renovation project features advanced manufacturing capabilities for inert SRM components such as nozzles, exit cones, aft closures, and cases. Backed in part by a Department of Defense Title III cooperative agreement, the facility is equipped with hydraulic presses, autoclaves, tape-wrap systems, and precision composite machining tools to speed production and enhance quality.
AMF-South is currently producing components for the Standard Missile, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, and Javelin programs, with expansion plans to support additional defense systems. The site has already created 40 jobs, with over 100 more expected in the coming years.
Local, state, and federal leaders praised the investment for strengthening national security programs and bringing high-quality jobs to North Alabama. The new site complements L3Harris’ existing 136,000-square-foot AMF-North facility, opened in 2019.
