LONG BEACH, CA—Ford Motor Company has launched a new 250,000-square-foot Electric Vehicle Development Campus in Long Beach, California, transforming a historic automotive and military site into the company’s primary EV innovation hub on the West Coast.
Originally built to produce the Model A in 1929, the newly renovated two-building campus now houses advanced design studios, electric vehicle testing labs, a fabrication shop, and a digital visualization suite. The facility supports cross-disciplinary collaboration on the next generation of electric vehicles, with engineering, software, battery, and thermal system development teams all working under one roof.
The Long Beach EV campus operates in close coordination with Ford’s teams in Dearborn and Palo Alto and embraces a startup-like culture grounded in simplicity, efficiency, and user-centered design. Employees from industries like consumer electronics and drone tech are helping shape a new approach to vehicle development — one aimed at delivering accessible, thrilling EV experiences.
Ford is expected to share more details about its EV strategy and manufacturing plans during an announcement on August 11.
