GAC, Magna Launch EV Assembly Program In Austria To Localize European Production

GRAZ, AUSTRIA—GAC and Magna have launched a vehicle assembly program to accelerate electric vehicle production in Europe, with serial production of the AION V electric SUV now underway at Magna’s Graz facility.
The collaboration is aimed at expanding localized manufacturing, supply and sales operations in the European market. By leveraging Magna’s contract manufacturing capabilities, GAC is positioning itself to deliver regionally assembled electric vehicles while scaling its presence across Europe.
“Europe is a vital market in GAC’s global development,” said Wei Haigang, President of GAC INTERNATIONAL. “Partnering with Magna enables us to bring locally assembled electric vehicles to European customers that reflect GAC’s values of smart technology, sustainability and craftsmanship.”
The AION V, which has received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, has already launched in markets including Finland, Poland and Portugal, with additional European expansion planned through new partnerships and service networks.
The program highlights the growing role of contract manufacturing in enabling faster market entry and localized production, particularly as automakers look to balance EV investment with regional demand and regulatory requirements.
