NASHVILLE, TN—A federal labor board is reviewing a decision by one of its regional officials to deny a union from trying to organize fewer than 100 of the thousands of employees at Nissan’s automotive assembly plant in Smyrna, TN.
CHATTANOOGA, TN—More than 1,700 workers at Volkswagen’s assembly plant here will go to the polls Wednesday through Friday as the United Auto Workers tries for a breakthrough in its drive to unionize a foreign automaker in the South.

TUSCALOOSA, AL—Mercedes-Benz US-International is in violation of federal labor law for prohibiting employees from organizing inside its assembly plant here when they are off the clock, an appeals court ruled on Monday. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit upheld a 2014 ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that Mercedes employees are free to solicit other employees to join the UAW Local 112 on the plant site.
FREMONT, CA—The UAW wants to unionize the Tesla Motors assembly plant here. Tesla’s factory is the only U.S. assembly plant owned by an American car company that does not have union representation.
CHATTANOOGA, TN—VW will appeal to federal court a National Labor Relations Board decision upholding a vote in which a small group of skilled trades workers at the carmaker’s Tennessee assembly plant aligned with the UAW.
