MILWAUKEE—Harley-Davidson Co. has a long history of manufacturing two-and three-wheeled motorcycles for police departments. It recently unveiled two models that are based on its LiveWire brand’s standard S2 platform, but come equipped with law enforcement-ready upgrades.
The S2 Patrol Del Mar and S2 Patrol Alpinista electric motorcycles are designed for urban patrol, event security and motorcade duty. The former weighs approximately 461 pounds and boasts a city riding range of 113 miles on a single charge. Recharging the battery from 20 percent to 80 percent capacity takes 78 minutes using a Level 2 charger. The bike can can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3 seconds.
The first police department to adopt the new models is in St. Cloud, FL. It was attracted to the benefits of electric motorcycles, including low heat output, minimal vibration and smooth maneuverability that reduces rider fatigue during long shifts. The near-silent operation also allows for more discreet approaches and stealthy operations.
LiveWire machines are assembled at Harley-Davidson’s factory in York, PA.
