Honda Discontinues GM-Built Acura ZDX Amid EV Market Headwinds

General Motors' facility in Spring Hill, Tennessee
DETROIT—Honda is discontinuing its Acura ZDX electric crossover, which was assembled by General Motors at its Spring Hill, Tennessee plant. The move underscores broader challenges facing U.S. automakers as EV demand cools and federal tax credits begin to phase out under President Trump’s new policies. Introduced under a 2020 Honda–GM partnership, the ZDX sold just over 10,000 units in the first half of 2025, about 15% of Acura’s U.S. sales. While production ends for the ZDX, GM will continue building Honda’s Prologue EV in Mexico, highlighting the shifting strategies automakers are taking to balance consumer demand, regulatory changes, and long-term electrification goals.
