Isuzu Breaks Ground on Landmark Vehicle Production Plant in South Carolina

PIEDMONT, SC—Isuzu North America Corporation, a global leader in commercial vehicles, has broken ground on a new state-of-the-art production facility in Piedmont, South Carolina.
The expansion involves the build-out of an existing one-million-square-foot facility. It will support the production of gas, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles, underscoring Isuzu’s commitment to innovation and the future of vehicle electrification.
“This landmark facility will set a new standard for flexibility and efficiency in vehicle manufacturing,” said Drew Romans, Vice President of Manufacturing at Gray. “We are honored to partner with Isuzu to support their continued growth in the U.S.”
The Piedmont plant will be Isuzu’s first U.S. facility to feature a variable-model, variable-volume production system. It will also introduce an advanced production line that eliminates the use of conveyors or pits, thereby enhancing scalability and adaptability. Automation technologies will be integrated throughout the site to increase efficiency.
Gray, ranked the No. 3 Top Contractor for Auto Plants by Engineering News-Record, is currently managing nearly 70 active projects nationwide.
For more than 40 years, Isuzu trucks have served customers across the U.S., with the first model arriving in 1984. Today, Isuzu maintains a network of more than 300 dealerships throughout North America.
