BRATISLAVA, Slovakia—Porsche AG is assembling its new Cayenne Electric at a flexible factory in this historic city on the Danube River. The facility, which can produce battery, gas and hybrid power trains, also features an automated body shop.
"Through the Cayenne Electric, we are firmly transferring [our] DNA into the future with our battery modules developed in-house, the highest levels of manufacturing quality, and a production line that seamlessly combines combustion engines, hybrid systems and electric power trains," says Albrecht Reimold, member of the executive board for production and logistics at Porsche. "This gives us the flexibility we need to reliably provide the highest quality, state-of-the-art technology and to meet individual customer requirements for every market worldwide.”
According to Reimold, this flexible production strategy will enable Porsche to "react quickly to changes in demand.”
Batteries for the Cayenne Electric are produced at a vertically integrated facility that features state-of-the-art quality. The Porsche Smart Battery Shop in Horná Streda mass-produces modules in a precisely controlled process consisting of cell preparation, stacking, laser welding, foaming, cold plate integration and end-of-line testing.
Volkswagen AG has been producing vehicles in Bratislava since 1991. In addition to producing the Porsche Cayenne, the flexible factory assembles the Audi Q7 and Q8, the Skoda Superb, the VW Passat and the VW Touareg.
