Electra Aero to Build Aircraft Factory in Ohio

SPRINGFIELD, OH—Electra Aero plans to build an $850 million assembly plant here to produce a nine-passenger hybrid-electric aircraft. The EL9 Ultra Short is designed for a new commercial aviation segment that involves trips between 50 and 250 miles.
The fixed-wing aircraft will use hybrid-electric propulsion and blown-lift technology to take off and land in as little as 150 feet. It enables Direct Aviation, which connects people and places directly through point-to-point mobility using novel access points such as parking lots, barges and sports fields.
“[We are] opening a new era of aviation, one where flight is direct, accessible and closer to the communities it serves,” says Marc Allen, CEO of Electra.
“The first era of aviation began right here in the greater Dayton region,” adds Allen. “It is fitting that aviation’s next era will be built here, too, where [we] will produce groundbreaking aircraft designed to transform the way people travel.”
According to Allen, the EL9 will provide “access, quiet operations, payload, range, safety and affordability.” Initial production will be 400 aircraft per year before ramping to 800 units.
