ROME—According to Reuters, Stellantis announced today that it plans to begin production of the hybrid Fiat 500 city car this November at its historic Mirafiori plant in Turin.
The automaker has already started assembling pre-production units, calling the move “a crucial step in the model’s industrialization process.” The upcoming hybrid model is expected to reinvigorate the Fiat brand across Europe and help lift declining automotive output in Italy.
Stellantis, formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat-Chrysler and PSA Group, has faced declining domestic output. In 2024, the company’s car production in Italy dropped to its lowest level in nearly 70 years. A recovery plan introduced in December aims to revive Italian manufacturing.
