Foxconn May Deploy Humanoid Robots at Texas Assembly Plant

HOUSTON—Foxconn is considering deploying humanoid robots at a new assembly plant here, which will produce servers for chipmaker Nvidia. It would mark the first time that the contract manufacturer has used humanoids on an assembly line.
Foxconn is developing its own humanoid robots with Nvidia, but it has also trialed humanoids made by China’s UBTech. The company has not decided which brand of humanoid it will use at the factory or how many will be deployed initially.
The two companies are aiming to have humanoid robots at work by the first quarter of 2026, when Foxconn’s new Houston factory will begin producing Nvidia’s GB300 AI servers. Foxconn has been training humanoid robots to pick and place objects, insert cables and do assembly work.
The Houston factory is ideally suited to deploy humanoid robots because it will be new and have more space than other server manufacturing sites.
Foxconn is working on two types of humanoid robot: one with two legs and another with a wheeled base.
Nvidia announced in April that it planned to build two supercomputer factories in Texas, partnering with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. Both sites are expected to ramp up production within 12 to 15 months.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts that humanoid robots will be widely used in factories within five years. Automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW are testing the use of humanoids on assembly lines, while Tesla is developing its own.Looking for quick answers on assembly and manufacturing topics?
