AMSTERDAM—In an effort to create a more circular economy, automotive supplier Valeo has agreed to supply two remanufactured components to Stellantis: an LED headlamp and an infotainment display screen.
Stellantis and Valeo are long-time partners, committed to extending the products’ lifespan without compromising quality, reducing waste, resource consumption and carbon footprint, while generating financial value.
Stellantis has set a goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2038. Similarly, Valeo is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. A circular economy plays a key role in achieving this goal for both companies, and remanufacturing is one of the main drivers.
Remanufacturing is a standardized industrial process that extends a used product’s lifespan, restoring it to OEM specifications and giving it the same performance and warranty as new parts.
At Valeo, remanufacturing the headlamp enables the reuse of up to 50 percent of the raw materials recovered from an end-of-life LED headlamp, mostly the most valuable parts, such as the LED module itself, reducing carbon emissions by up to 70 percent compared to producing a new one. The headlamps are remanufactured at factories in Chrzanow, Poland, and Angers, France.
Stellantis is the first carmaker to integrate this product in its aftersales offer in Europe. The first application will start on the Peugeot models 3008 and 5008. The second application will be for the Peugeot P 508 model.
The display screen is the third remanufactured product developed by Valeo with Stellantis. Too often, a vehicle’s display screen is thrown away, when this high-value part could be remanufactured. The screen will be remanufactured at Valeo’s Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers, France, where the company is already remanufacturing front camera modules. Remanufactured screens will be available for the following models: Peugeot 308; Citroën C3 and Aircross; DS DS3 Crossback; and the Opel Grandland X, Corsa and Mokka.
Valeo has been remanufacturing car parts for more than 40 years. Its remanufactured portfolio covers products such as starters, alternators, air conditioning compressors, brake calipers, and dual mass flywheels. Valeo remanufactures 1 million products annually and aims to double this capacity by 2030.
Stellantis offers some 12,000 remanufactured spare parts across more than 40 product lines. Its portfolio includes starters, alternators, clutches, turbochargers, injectors, brake calipers, electronic control modules, control units, multimedia, SCR tank, transmissions, engines, and high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles.Looking for quick answers on assembly and manufacturing topics?
