DETROIT—General Motors recently shared insights into the growing role of artificial intelligence in strengthening its global supply chain, introducing advanced digital tools that provide predictive insights, greater visibility, and faster responses to disruptions.
Developed in-house with supplier collaboration, GM’s suite of AI-enhanced supply chain tools includes:
- Risk Intelligence – Analyzes thousands of daily public posts to anticipate risks such as natural disasters or other disruptions.
- SupplyHealth – Monitors thousands of supplier sites to detect and flag potential issues before they escalate.
- SupplyMap – Aggregates data from thousands of global suppliers to create a detailed, map-based view of the supply network.
- SupplyAlert – Centralizes communication to ensure timely action when risks are identified.
These tools were launched in 2022 following the global semiconductor shortage, which underscored the need for deeper visibility into supply vulnerabilities and faster crisis response.
“AI is a practical and transformative force for GM,” the company said. “By combining advanced analytics with strong supplier partnerships, we are building a more resilient, efficient supply chain to deliver for our customers.”
GM emphasized that supplier collaboration remains critical to the effectiveness of these tools, with training and resources provided to help partners map their value chains and respond more quickly to risks.
The company noted that the AI-driven approach is enhancing enterprise-wide efficiency and positioning GM with a competitive advantage in navigating today’s dynamic global market.
