CARLSBAD, CA—Aptera Motors Corp. has begun limited production for solar-powered electric vehicles at its factory here. The company’s three-wheeled EV is equipped with solar cells embedded in its body panels that enable vehicles to recharge while in motion, helping to address range anxiety issues.
The validation assembly process will allow Aptera engineers to optimize every stage of low-volume production, from materials handling to final fit and finish, before ramping up operations.
“[This] represents a tangible move from prototype builds to a structured, repeatable assembly process,” says Chris Anthony, CEO of Aptera. “Engineers and technicians are now refining the systems, tools and procedures that will guide [our] transition into scalable manufacturing.
“This marks an important moment in [our] journey,” claims Anthony. “For the first time, our technicians will be assembling vehicles along a defined sequence of stations, using processes developed hand-in-hand with the engineers who designed them.
“At the heart of the new setup is a large-scale precision assembly fixture that enables [our] body in carbon to be built with exceptional dimensional accuracy,” explains Anthony. “The fixture enhances throughput, ensures consistency and establishes a technical baseline for [our] future expansion into low-volume assembly.”
