PIA's Automation's assembly system, custom-built for Bic, includes six blade-handling modules, which are connected by two parallel transport systems. The fully automated system is capable of high-volume production while maintaining high quality.
The new machine replaces a legacy system that was in operation for more than 40 years, offering at least twice the throughput and close to double the efficiency of the previous equipment.
A medical device manufacturer contacted systems integrator Tessy Automation and its parent company, Tessy Plastics, with a two-fold challenge: improve an existing critical-care product for measuring blood-flow rate, and simultaneously design and build a fully automated system to assemble it.
