New & Noteworthy
New Fastening Tools Are Precise, Flexible

From automated screw feeding systems to configurable torque wrenches, this month’s “New and Noteworthy” reflects the continued evolution of fastening technology.
Engineers can see products just like these firsthand at The Manufacturing & Automation eXchange (MAX) taking place March 24-26 in Nashville, TN, where the focus remains on practical innovations for modern production environments.
Corded Pistol-Grip Screwdrivers
The Electric Pistol Direct (EPD) series is designed to address the increasing precision and process reliability requirements of advanced manufacturing. The compact, lightweight corded screwdrivers are available in more than 30 models, with a torque range from 1 to 110 newton-meters to support a broad range of fastening applications.
The redesigned cable is thinner, lighter and more flexible, improving operator ergonomics and freedom of movement. A front white LED illuminates the work area, while front and rear LEDs provide tightening status feedback. Audible and tactile signals can be customized to support clear operator communication and help reduce errors.
The EPD series integrates with Desoutter’s AXON platform, enabling functions such as angle compensation (eCompass) and advanced tightening strategies without hardware dongles. The tools also feature an eLINK interface for accessory integration, including scanners or Nexonar trackers.

Screw Feeder System
The SF30A Screw Feeder is an automated system engineered to feed screws and present them directly to the screwdriver tip. Screws are delivered through a distribution tube to the jaw for immediate installation, supporting reduced cycle times and improved production efficiency.
The system accommodates fasteners from M2.5 to M6. The driver can install approximately 20 to 30 screws per minute, and the hopper holds up to 2,000 M3x15 screws. The driver may be suspended from a balancer, mounted in a torque-reaction arm or to a cobot.
Each SF30A system is customized for the user’s specific fastener and application requirements and is delivered fully assembled.

Indicating-Type Torque Screwdriver
The STC2-G (-BT) Indicating-Type Torque Screwdriver is designed for torque application and quality inspection with integrated data capture. The tool features a multifunction LED ring to indicate tightening status and provide pass-fail judgments during inspection processes.
It can store data on 1,000 tightening operations, and it can output that data to a PC via USB connection. Bluetooth versions enable wireless data transfer, and compatible TDMS software (sold separately) supports creation of a tightening data management system. Complimentary Excel Receiver software allows data transfer into Excel for expanded analysis.
The screwdriver accepts standard 1/4-inch hex root bits, operates in clockwise and counterclockwise directions with a ratcheting function, and uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The display can be inverted for improved visibility. Setup selections include measuring and tightening modes, unit selection, direction, and auto memory. The tool offers ±1 percent accuracy and complies with ISO 6789 Type I Class E calibration procedures.

Wera Click-Torque Lock Wrenches
Wera’s Click-Torque Lock wrenches build on the established Click-Torque line with a deactivatable torque function. When the torque function is active, the wrench produces an audible and tactile click once the preset torque value is reached. The Lock feature allows the torque function to be deactivated so the tool can be used without torque control when required.
Torque values are set by turning the handle and are displayed on dual scales. The main scale indicates the selected value (newton-meters or foot-pounds) within the tightening range, while the fine scale allows adjustment to preset values. Audible and tactile feedback confirm value selection, and the wrench can then be locked.
The Click-Torque Lock wrenches are suitable for clockwise operation, while R/L versions support both clockwise and counterclockwise use. The fine-toothed ratchet mechanism features 45 teeth and includes a lever on the ratchet head to switch between tightening and loosening.
